Blog:Survey Junk Mail!

Junk mail. Don't we all love it? Here at Ball State, they have introduced ways to manage subscriptions. I have chosen to stay subscribed to "Survey Participation" because, well, they give you cool stuff sometimes. But sometimes, you got to wonder at what point do you STOP sending the same survey out again and again? That's right, I said the SAME survey. Below is a screenshot of the email:
Two thing to note:
• They're giving away an iPod Touch
• It's the THIRD TIME they've sent out this email.
Now, why in the world is no one responding to the email to get an iPod Touch? Sounds like a sweet deal! Well, there are three possibilities. (1) We're lazy (2) The Survey is too long (3) People unsubscribed from the "Survey Participation" mailing list because people are sending out a survey THREE TIMES! Note that there is not the option of "because a person already has an iPod Touch". It's free! That's like saying, "Oh, they're giving out $100? Oh, I already have $100." Americans love free stuff. I love free stuff. And an iPod Touch is a good "free stuff".
Now, the lazy people will never respond to emails. They're too lazy to even unsubscribe to the list, chances are they may mark it as spam (but, in the case of extreme laziness, they'll just delete it).
Survey too long? Really, all you have to do is click a bubble. It doesn't really matter, it's all anonymous anyway. The survey contains four textfields, which consist of 'zipcode' 'time spent at ball state [months/years]' 'age' and 'name of hometown'.So after you manage to type that stuff out, it's just a matter of scrolling and clicking.
But chances are, the people utilizing the Survey Participation mailing list have abused it by sending the same survey out millions of times (or three. same difference). So, chances are, you're sending it out to people who've already taken it, or the lazy people who will never answer it and are too lazy to unsubscribe.
Look out for a BSU Late Night survey coming soon! (don't really count on this one actually happening...)
